Haniyah
About Me
My name is Haniyah, and I am a medical student at the University of Exeter with a strong passion for teaching and mentoring. I find great joy in helping others unlock their full potential, which is why I’m excited to offer my tutoring services. I believe every student has their own unique learning style, and I adapt my approach to suit their individual needs, whether it’s through visual aids, mnemonic techniques, or breaking down complex concepts into simple, digestible explanations. I focus not only on helping students understand the content but also on mastering exam techniques and fostering confidence in their abilities.
In addition to tutoring, I’ve had experience teaching and mentoring students, including helping Year 12 students prepare for medical school interviews and supporting them in achieving top grades in their studies. I enjoy creating an environment that encourages growth, where students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves.
As a tutor, I pride myself on being patient, approachable, and flexible with my schedule. I understand that life can be busy, so I’m happy to accommodate students’ varying time commitments. Ultimately, my goal is to make learning enjoyable, efficient, and tailored to each student’s needs, helping them reach their academic goals with confidence.
My teaching style
My teaching approach is highly interactive and tailored to make learning as efficient and engaging as possible. I focus on visual learning using diagrams, mind maps, and flowcharts to simplify complex topics and help students retain information more effectively. I believe that seeing the bigger picture before diving into details makes understanding much easier.
Mastering exam technique is a key part of my tutoring. I guide students through exam-style questions, helping them break down question patterns, structure their answers, and develop a strong exam strategy. This ensures they don’t just memorise content but know how to apply it under timed conditions.
I also use mnemonics and acronyms to help students recall difficult information effortlessly. By creating memorable shortcuts, I make revision quicker and more effective. Additionally, I simplify complex concepts into clear, digestible explanations, making even the most challenging topics easy to grasp.
Ultimately, my goal is to make learning less overwhelming and more structured. I adapt to each student’s needs, ensuring they gain confidence in their knowledge and skills. With my support, students don’t just learn, they master their subjects in a way that sticks.
My past experience
I have previously tutored family and friends, helping them grasp difficult concepts in various subjects. Additionally, I’ve gained experience teaching 9–11 year olds in both individual and group settings, both online and in person. This has allowed me to adapt my approach to suit different learning styles and environments, refining my ability to communicate complex ideas in an engaging and accessible way.
My Proudest Achievements
Getting into medical school at the University of Exeter is my proudest achievement, marking the result of hard work and dedication. As part of the MediBuddy Mentorship Program, I help Year 11 students prepare for medical school interviews and guide them in achieving excellent grades. My A-level success in Maths, Biology, and Chemistry laid the foundation for this journey, and I’m eager to share my experience to help others reach their goals.
