About Me
Hi! I’m a final year Dental student at the University of Manchester 🙂 I’ve had lots of experience in tutoring students and prospective students one on one, reviewing personal statements (even if they’re for different courses or courses that are slightly related – e.g. Medicine!), and I’ve provided a lot of Q&A sessions for how I got into Uni and how I got 4/4 of my offers.
I received offers from King’s College London, Queen Mary College, Cardiff University, and the University of Manchester. I come from a socioeconomically deprived area, so I understand how it feels to be in competition for a University spot against others with better luck of the draw. I also have ADHD so I know how it feels to be a neurodivergent student and require slightly different styles and modes of teaching and concentration.
I love working with people and helping them – it’s part of why I want to go into Dentistry! I’d love for a chance to tutor even more people and make sure they’re receiving the best quality education and top personal tips for getting into Uni. Since I’ve worked as a Student Ambassador at UoM, I’ve also received “inside info” on how to ace your interview, and going through so many interviews myself as both the interviewee and the interviewer has given me a lot of experience so I can share all my knowledge with you!
My teaching style
I have a lot of teaching styles – it’s down to the student how they want to learn. If you prefer visuals, we can do that. Or a more hands on teaching style can be provided too! I like to mix online resources with written guides and explanations, and since it tends to be more one-on-one, I’m happy to slow down to a pace that suits the student best. It’s your learning, so it’s what works for you!
My past experience
I have a lot of past experience with teaching/tutoring. As a Student Ambassador at UoM, I’ve provided sessions to disadvantaged students from deprived socioeconomic backgrounds and students with learning disabilities. Furthermore, I’ve also engaged in programs such as the Manchester Access Program – a program to widen the participation of students in the area. I’ve also given weekly tutoring sessions in the Success 4 Life program. Not only that, but I’ve regularly provided Q&A sessions as a Dental student to prospective Dental students, assessed, reviewed, and provided a thorough one-to-one feedback session on various prospective students’ personal statements, and I’ve provided tutoring for KSA and GCSE to family friend’s children and others.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements thus far have been the treatment sessions I provide patients with under General Anaesthetic. Being in theatre is a very different environment to being in a clinic – that becomes a reminder of how far I’ve come and what expectations and responsibilities are placed upon me. Furthermore, I’m proud of my academic achievements despite having ADHD and coming from a socioeconomically deprived area. I’m grateful for the importance of education being instilled in me by my parents. Finally, I’m also proud of keeping up with exercise! I hope to come back to this paragraph and say that I’ve completed a half marathon by next year April. 🙂
