About Me
Hello!
I’m Celina, a first-year medical student at the University of Manchester! I enjoy teaching and have taught over 100 hours in IGCSE and A-Level subjects including Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, and more! If you’re planning to read medicine and would like some help, I would be more than happy to help you! As an international student from Malaysia, I understand how difficult it is to get into medicine hence I’m currently helping pre-meds from Malaysia get into a UK medical school. Having just finished my application earlier last year and having made extensive notes from seminars and crash courses, I realised that I am able to guide pre-meds very efficiently and mymentees have feedbacked that the questions I predicted came out in their interviews! I’m also always curious and open to learning new things to better myself as a tutor! Looking forward to tutoring you! 🙂
My teaching style
1. Understanding principles
I belive true learning is when students understand the fundamentals behind a concept. For example in Chemistry, instead of asking students to memorise why adding water to esters facilitates its break down, I explain Le Chatelier’s principle and how adding water would cause the equilibirum to shift to favour the breakdown to reduce the water content of the vessel
2. Active recall
I always start lessons by getting students to answer a few questions regarding the last lesson and recap their gaps in knowledge. Before the session ends, I will also get them to do some questions before sending them home.
3. Mnemonics
Regarding some topics where understanding is not possible or if there is too much to remember I make mnemonics. For example, in the reactions of alcohols I made the mnemonic CODE which stands for combustion, oxidation, dehydration and esterification
My past experience
I started tutoring at a tuition school in 2021 and have been tutoring the IGCSE, A-Level and the Pre-med curriculum since then
