About Me

Hello! My name is William and I am passionate about helping students grow in confidence and achieve their academic goals. I studied Music at the University of Cambridge and am currently a Masters student in Musicology at the University of Oxford. With over five years of teaching and mentoring experience, I know how to adapt to each student’s unique strengths and learning styles, creating lessons that support their development and encourage them academically. Whether you’re preparing for exams, improving study skills, or seeking tutoring in GCSE/A-Level English, Music, History, or Humanities degrees, I’ll work with you to build knowledge, creative thinking, and strong results, while making learning enjoyable, rewarding, and empowering.
I am originally from Bristol, but have spent the past year and a bit studying in China. I have just returned to the UK to start my Masters degree at Oxford. I am the first in my family to go to Oxbridge and the first to do a postgraduate, so I know what it feels like to apply to these sorts of institutions. As a student at Cambridge, I was very involved in the student community and worked at outreach events, dispelling myths about what it is like to go to university, what an Oxbridge interview feels like, and the content of a degree at Cambridge. I am passionate about widening access to university and academic thinking and my teaching style reflects this, focused entirely on the best way a student learns and using their natural curiosity to drive great results in exams, as well as a raised confidence in their own academic ability.

My teaching style

My approach is patient, supportive, and encouraging, ensuring students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking outside the box to create striking and successful work that is true to themself. I am a hands on teacher who pays attention to the best way a student learns and thinks, allowing for classes to be totally adapted to them. I hope to inspire excitement towards learning, especially in the exam-focused GCSEs and A-Levels, which can often become boring and monotonous. Working within these systems, I find ways for students to be true to themselves and create work that reflects their hard work and ability, as well as show themselves through their work in order to achieve high grades.

My past experience

I have five years experience with great results. Highlights include working with a child with learning difficulties progress from failing all of his mock exams to passing all his GCSEs, supporting an IELTS student in raising their score from 4.5 to a 6 and tutoring him on entrance exams, successfully getting accepted into a Russell Group University. I have also edited journal articles for prestigious academic journals, as well as MA dissertations that have achieved distinctions. I have taught English language at various levels and supported students in developing strong communication skills. I have also taught piano, combining technical skills with musical expression to help learners of all ages grow in confidence and enjoyment. My focus is always on adapting to each student’s needs and ensuring real, measurable progress.
