About Me
Hello, my name is Sultan I am an incoming medical student an friendly tutor from London, who has completed A levels in mathematics, further mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology achieving 5A*s hence I understand how to learn and importantly how to teach these scientific disciplines. I have always in particularly had a passion for understanding science and teaching, which attracted me to a career in medicine. Outside academia I thoroughly enjoy striving to reach optimum fitness; going to the gym, competing in wrestling as well as triathlon. Plato’s view that with these two means (‘education and physical activity’) ‘man can attain perfection’ has always inspired me. I have competed for many years in the martial art BJJ, winning various medals. Another passion I have is for language, I enjoy the nature and structure of how different languages are formed and the culture behind each one, currently I am learning Spanish. It would be a pleasure to share my understanding of how to succeed in this UK education system and aid in the success of a future doctor, I look forward to meeting you!
My teaching style
From my experience the main reason why many students fall short of succeeding in exams is due to a lack of ability to apply the theory they have learnt to application questions in the exam papers, which is a cause of not learning/ being taught the material in a way to develop a strong understanding of the concepts. My methods of teaching include a heavy emphasis on achieving a deep understanding of a topic attaining it through constantly going over each topic many times in different ways, with different resources to ensure the development of a stronger, more thorough understanding of said topic, thus being able to apply the theory to exam questions. This style of teaching particularly helps with A levels and section 1 of the BMAT as well as interviews. Furthermore, practice questions are essential to develop a strong scientific problem solving ability that these subjects require. All incorrect answers from the student are invaluable; it is important that the student achieves the solution by himself through guiding and not just told the answer to ensure maximum development of a scientific understanding. This is an essential practice that lays the foundations of the students problem solving skills and critical thinking thus strong development will aid the student in not only their A level exams or GCSEs but university entrance exams and interviews as well as job interviews. Hence I advise you to further inquire me as a tutor if this is of interest to you. Another method of learning that almost guarantees any students success in the UK education system is memorizing the mark schemes in exams, for many students they don’t know how to do this or cant spend the time to ensure that a large enough sample of mark schemes are learnt, I am able to help overcome this through the methods as well as resources I used to memorize the mark schemes for my A Levels / GCSE.
My past experience
I have worked as a mathematics tutor at KUMON teaching a range of levels of mathematics from year 1 to year 13. Furthermore I was involved with teaching mathematics and chemistry to the younger pupils at my school at A level standard, GCSE and lower. I have tutored extensively both online and in person; I have tutored students from year 4 studying for their 11+ exams to Oxbridge / medical applicants for interviews and A level exams. With the students for 11+, I would have regular lessons to ensure all topics were understood and ability was maintained to a high standard. Aside from the 1 – 1 tutoring, for all my students I would set sufficient extra work to ensure the student is able to develop faster and also ensuring my lessons are as valuable as possible. Having a strong understanding of the UK education system I understand what it takes to be successful hence for all my students I would organize a timetable and the order of study which they will undertake in a given length of time, tailoring it to their needs.
