About Me
Experienced professional with a robust background in sales and marketing, having worked for blue-chip companies in the Chemical and Plastics Industry for 17 years, concluding in 2011. From 2012 to 2017, I taught English in Manchester and Shenyang, where I developed strong communication and cultural awareness skills. Whilst in China I taught in schools, Language Schools and Universities as well as business-related English for such companies as BMW, Michelin, Siemens and Star Mall.
Upon returning to the UK, I utilised my marketing expertise to promote a digital platform dedicated to the production of mini-apps, showcasing my adaptability to emerging technologies. Currently, I have returned to teaching, driven by my passion for helping students achieve their goals and guiding them on their learning journeys.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, golfing, gardening, and walking my dog, which reflects my love for continuous learning, outdoor activities, and a balanced lifestyle.
My teaching style
I adopt a student-focused teaching style that prioritises the needs, interests, and learning preferences of students rather than solely relying on traditional instructional methods. Here are some key characteristics and strategies associated with this approach:
Learner-Centered Activities: Engage students in hands-on, collaborative projects that encourage active participation.
Differentiated Instruction: Tailor lessons and activities to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, and interests. This may involve offering choices in assignments or grouping students for collaborative learning.
Feedback and Assessment: Use formative assessments to gauge student understanding and provide timely feedback, allowing for adjustments in teaching methods.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and solve problems, fostering a deeper understanding of the material.
Real-World Connections: Relate lessons to real-life scenarios to make the content more relevant and engaging for students.
Fostering Independence: Encourage self-directed learning by providing students with the tools and resources to explore topics of interest on their own.
Positive Learning Environment: Create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and making mistakes.
Collaboration and Communication: Promote group work and discussions to enhance communication skills and social learning.
Implementing a student-focused teaching style can enhance student engagement, motivation, and overall learning outcomes. Educators often benefit from being flexible and willing to adapt their strategies based on student feedback and performance.
My past experience
As indicated above
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest moments are when students achieve their goals and get to go to the school/university of their choice or get that promotion or chance to work abroad, this was particularly rewarding when I was working with employees from Michelin as their reward for passing the internal English exam was the opportunity to work in the USA ( a dream come true for the students i taught).
