About Me
Hello I’m Helen, and I’ve just finished my final year at Oxford studying English Language and Literature! During my time at Oxford, I was the English Subject Representative at Pembroke College, having been elected by the senior tutors of English — I created outreach materials for incoming freshers and prospective applicants, providing them with tailored welcome documents, detailed course outlines, and example essays. My role was two-pronged: I acted as a mentor for other Undergraduate students of English and represented a point-of-contact between the Student Body and the tutors at Pembroke. As a result of my involvement in Admissions-oriented discussion with both students and tutors, I am well-equipped to tutor prospective applicants for both the ELAT and the interview. In my spare time, I have also lead several practice interviews with applicants. This is supported by several years of tutoring experience for GCSE and A-level English, during which I taught anywhere from 1 to 6 people, both in-person and over Zoom.
My teaching style
I am a results-driven but friendly tutor — I believe that a student’s attitude towards their subject of study is one of the most important factors in terms of enabling success. While I am well-equipped and knowledgeable about exam technique and key approaches, I think that encouraging students to alter their (potentially negative!) perspectives towards certain subjects is crucial to secure long-term results.

My Proudest Achievements
I am especially proud of completing my degree at Oxford– pieces of work which stand out to me include my Dissertation and Extended Research Paper that I finished in final year. I am also proud of my own personal growth in the Academic sphere: coming from a state-school background (and overcoming doubts about my abilities!) demonstrated that I can be very resilient.
