Gabriel
About Me
Hi, my name’s Gabriel and I’m currently a 3rd year dental student at the University of Plymouth.
I would describe myself as an all-rounded individual with the ability to perform excellently not only academically but also through other activities such as sports and music. Being an athlete and musician enables me to effectively engage a wide range of people and positively contribute to my community. I enjoy building individual rapport and aim to help students highlight their own qualities to enhance their personal statements and interview success.
During my application journey I received offers to study Dentistry from all of my interviews (3/3) and also for my back-up option (2/2).
My personal statement, interview preparation and approach contributed to this success, and I would really enjoy sharing my methods and advice to put you in the best position possible to receive offers.
My teaching style
The dentistry application process is tough with increasing competition for places every year. The importance of having the guidance from someone who understands and has successfully completed the process can make the beneficial difference in your application.
I would describe my teaching style as collaborative and encouraging; I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere as I understand that receiving feedback on personal statements or interview answers can potentially feel daunting at first.
Coaching badminton, martial arts and aspiring competitive swimmers has given me the opportunity to give advice and feedback whilst being a music mentor has allowed me to improve the confidence of my students.
I hope to use these skills along with my dental interview experiences and the experiences of other dental students to tailor our sessions to what you would like. Whether that’s simulating mock interviews or focusing on particular topic areas/types of questions from certain universities I am happy to structure the sessions accordingly.
My past experience
Yes, I have experience as a sports coach and music mentor. Furthermore, my role as a dental “parent” at university allows me to help new dental students pass their exams and progress through the years.
I have also been involved in helping prospective students with their personal statements and interview preparation.
My Proudest Achievements
I would say my proudest achievements would be getting into dental school, achieving 3 grade 8 distinctions in the piano, saxophone and guitar whilst continuing to compete at high levels in many sports. The process of applying for Dentistry required lots of time, hard work and perseverance which can sometimes feel like a lot. I am very pleased to have managed my time well to achieve the results needed academically and to enjoy my extracurricular activities.
I look forward to working with you to fulfil your ambitions and if not, I wish you all the best with your application!
