About Me
Hi, my name is Amar and I am a first-year medical student at the University of Cambridge. I have personal experience in going through the entire medical school application process, and so I understand how difficult it can be, particularly balancing personal statements, admissions tests, interviews, exams and extracurriculars.
I have good knowledge of what it takes to pass the various stages of the application process – through scoring in the 99th percentile on the UCAT exam, passing panel and MMI interviews at universities including Cambridge and UCL, and achieving 3 A*s at A-Level in biology, chemistry and maths. I hope that I can use this knowledge and share it with my students, from tips and tricks that I used to overcome difficult aspects of the courses/exams/interviews, to specific strategies and methods I used in these scenarios.
I have always enjoyed teaching my fellow students and friends as it gives me a sense of purpose, and that is what inspired me to become a tutor. I hope to be able to continue this and help other students to achieve their goals through my tuition sessions.
I offer tutoring in biology, chemistry and maths at both GCSE and A-Level, along with UCAT/BMAT exam preparation, medicine interview practice, advice and guidance, and help with medicine personal statements.
My teaching style
My teaching style involves using realistic scenarios to guide teaching – whether that be past exam paper questions, real questions from entrance exams, or interview questions in the style that I received in my interviews. I will first discover the strength of the student in areas they desire to learn in through asking questions, and then use the questions, based on topics that the students find difficult, to guide the session and this will change to reflect the ability/strength of a student in a specific area. This will start with simpler concepts to help grasp an understanding, before arriving at more complex and nuanced questions that are designed to catch students out.
This process is entirely based on the knowledge that many students commonly are not aware of complex, trick questions that are included in exams or interviews, and aim to provide them with the core principles and knowledge to approach these questions, and apply it to other situations.
My past experience
I have tutored privately in the past, helping students to pass their GCSEs, and also have experience in tutoring friends.
