17About Me
I am currently a third year studying Japanese at the University of Oxford. I have just returned from my year abroad in Kobe where I spent a year taking language classes and lectures in Kobe University’s Faculty of Letters.
While on my year abroad I wrote a thesis titled Freedom in Press and Defamation in Japan: A Case-Study on the Former Unification Church”. I presented that thesis at the end of my course to the University Board and the Faculty of Letters. Prior to this I separately presented within the faculty on “Reclaimed Land in Kobe: The history and impact of man-made islands in a port city”.
I am interested in Japanese current affairs and literature. In my final two years at Oxford I will be studying a variety of subjects including: Classical Japanese Literature, Classical Japanese, and Modern History.
Outside of university I enjoy Karate, which I have been doing for 16 years.
My teaching style
I offer tutoring for Oxbridge admission interviews and personal statement editing. I tailor the classes to the students needs. For admissions tutoring I like to read the students Personal statement before the lesson and then create a questions based exercise from the contents of the statement. I may also give the student a piece of reading before the session so that we can practice mock interview style questioning.
My past experience
I have prior experience tutoring potential Oxbridge applicants and have had numerous successes in helping students receiving offers. I have helped coach for a variety of subjects including Japanese, Chinese, Persian and Arabic, European and Asian mixed language courses, History and English.
My Proudest Achievements
I have competed in Karate for many years, some of my proudest achievements are being awarded “a Blue” at Oxford, recognising my efforts in Karate. Being awarded my 2nd Dan black belt, and being selected for the Welsh National squad and travelling abroad to compete.
