About Me

Hello, I am Amaira Sharma. I moved to the UK 4 years ago and have completed my sixth form- IB Diploma, gap year wherein I gained retail experience and research/admin experience working at a publishing company and my first year at the University of Bath. I was born and brought up in India therefore I am a bilingual and fluently speak Hindi and English. Having completed IB psychology during the last two years of high school/sixth form and I am really interested to learn about the human brain and behaviour therefore I am studying Psychology at University. Additionally, I have always loved Biology, being my favourite science subject and it links very well with the biology of the brain, helping me deepen my understanding of the biological approach of psychology. Being a reflective and open-minded learner has led me to constantly improve upon myself and my knowledge. As a caring and organised individual, I would love to help students learn and improve their knowledge to achieve their best academic potential. I would provide my study tips, knowledge, skills and tips I have learnt throughout school.

My teaching style

My lessons would start with a self-assessment regarding where the tutee currently stands and what they would like to achieve as their end-goal after the lessons. Goal-setting would help students focus towards a target and we can review tactics to achieve the desired goal. I am very open to students asking question regarding the content throughout the lesson and guide their lessons if they wanted to change the structure of the lesson that works better for them. Overall, my lessons would start by introducing the lesson object (overview of what we will cover), cover the content (with case studies and examples throughout), testing knowledge through MCQs and short-answer questions and end with a progress and feedback session.

My past experience

In the past, I have been an well-being ambassador and currently I am part of a peer mentor scheme at University hence I am very open to hearing people’s concerns and trying my best to help them. I have previously helped my friends/peers in my school understand a concept or topic.

My Proudest Achievements

I believe my proudest achievement would be being a published author on my book about the displacement of indigenous tribes and uncovering the detrimental impacts on ecology as the indigenous community are a vital part of our societies and should not be forcefully displaced. Additionally, my extended essay as part of my IB course work was research that I am very much interested in as it an exploration on the impact of bilingualism on neurodegenerative diseases and being a bilingual myself and with the increase in neurodegenerative diseases, I found this area of research to be relevant in the current times and personally.
