About Me
I am incredibly dedicated and absolutely love what I do – Classics and languages are incredibly important to me, as is the facilitation of their spread as much as possible. I love studying the vast, century-spanning web which emerges when a path is traced from the Latin and Greek employed millennia ago all the way down to the English and Romance languages spoken today. Knowledge of one end hugely enhances and enriches that of the other while simultaneously training and refining the mind in a manner which simply cannot be achieved elsewhere. I would consider myself to have near fluency in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Spanish.
Once I have completed my undergraduate degree I hope to continue my studies within the world of academia alongside working to open up access for all to both Oxbridge and Classics (starting here).
My teaching style
This is a tricky question to answer, since I would adapt my teaching style as much as possible to the tutee, based upon the manner through which they learn best (whether frequent testing, making visual aides, completing worksheets, etc.). I am extremely patient, and believe that consistent, repeated return over multiple lessons (in the form of quick recap at the start, for example) is essential for long-term recall and comprehension, as is immersion outside class – listening to Spanish music, for example.
My past experience
I have previously tutored both younger children in Maths (year 5 and lower school) and GCSE Maths and Biology, as well as provided guidance on Oxford Classics admission, so therefore have experience with a wide range of ages.
My Proudest Achievements
In the second term of this academic year I sat my Classics Mods (Honour Moderations in Classics), which consisted of 10 x 3 hour in-person exams over a period of 2 weeks. I achieved a First in every single exam, ranked 5th overall in the year, and was awarded the Harold Lister Sunderland Prize for the best overall performance in the Greek papers, despite having started Greek from scratch the previous year.
