About Me

Hello there, my name is Esin and I study Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. My degree is like any other Psychology degree, but with the added focus towards experimental design, statistics, and data analysis. In preparation for this degree, I took Biology, Maths, and Chemistry at school, as well as Psychology, to supplement my ability to interpret and produce scientific writing.

Additionally, the Oxbridge application process is a distinct and memorable one, with interview styles being updated year to year. As a current Oxford student, I bring the advantage of having very recently gone through the application process myself and having friends in many different departments and degrees that can offer insights from their own recent experience.

Besides my scientific and academic interests, I also play piano and took Music Theory in adherence to the ABRSM curriculum. I would be very happy to tutor in the area of Psychology and Human Sciences, Oxbridge applications, or music.

Thank you for considering me for tutoring. I hope I can be of help by offering my skills and experience.

My teaching style

My teaching style would be adapted to different individuals based on their personality and level of existing knowledge. For a younger student in GSCE Biology, I would create a detailed lesson plan with homework to complete between sessions, whereas with a 1st year university student studying Psychology, I may take a more relaxed and self-led approach, allowing the student to guide me with their own questions. The difference between the two approaches comes partly from the difference in the learning requirements for GSCEs and University degrees. GSCEs require a solid understanding of most of the content, while University degrees are more specialised and self-guided, leaving room for individual research. Therefore, I try to lean into the unique skills that each academic situation requires and treat students similarly to what another educational professional would be able to offer them at the time, like a college teacher or a university supervisor.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements since being at university has been my versatility I have had to display in my degree. As with most people entering university, I had expectations of what my degree would entail, but these expectations subverted. I had expected to spend most of my time in libraries, but I found myself in labs touching human brains and learning how to code in Python. I am very proud that I was able to adapt and to embrace these new learning opportunities. I am also glad that these opportunities were somewhat forced upon me to force me to break out of my comfort zone and to learn new skills I had not expected to have to learn.
