About Me
An ambitious medical student with 9 A* at GCSE passionate about tutoring through my own past experiences. I have a passion to teach it not only helps to keep the knowledge ticking over my head but improve my explanation and communication skills both of which are crucial in a medical career. I am someone who likes to be well organised and productive with my time and having come from a state school with no extra help from teachers and being the first in the family going into medicine, I can relate to many students feeling lost and confused through this stressful process.
I will use previous experience and knowledge of medicine applications, in addition to the criteria sought out by medical schools for applicants, to govern the approach to lessons; medical schools look for hard-working, problem-solving and passionate applicants and I aim to help my tutees hone in these skills during lessons and apply them to the application, e.g. in reasoning sections of admission tests and difficult interview questions. I will provide admission advice, practice opportunities and mock interviews to my tutees.
My teaching style
Practice is key! With these exams there’s only little content to go off from this is due to the skills and techniques that are needed to succeed in the exams knowing how the questions are asked and what answers to put down are mainly done through practice.
My teaching methods are to essentially sit down with the student and teach them the relevant content of GCSE / A level, and then making sure they understand all the concepts by asking them to explain it to me in their own way. Then, I will fill in any gaps in their knowledge and ask them to keep going over that concept. Finally, what I think is the most crucial element of teaching and learning content is the application; so I will give them many past paper questions so that they develop the exam techniques and the skills to succeed in their exams.
My past experience
Yes I have tutored with MyTutor
have been giving lessons at my local tuition for GCSE science and maths, as well as mentoring, higher GCSE maths students at a partner secondary school for my sixth form college. Also, I mentor students in the year below at my school at AS level. Students have massively improved in their grades with the help of my teaching, for example, a student I had taught jumped from a low grade 7 to a grade 8 in their Maths GCSE. Also, a student I mentored went from a grade D in Biology to a grade B at AS. This is due to my flexible and unique methods of teaching to ensure my explanations are understandable for the specific student.
