About Me

I am a hardworking medical student who has been able to balance academics, extracurriculars and personal interests throughout school and now into adulthood. Though my journey hasn’t been straightforward, I made sure to use my experiences to learn about the world and become a better person for my future as a doctor. I believe this rounded approach is what made me a successful candidate for various medical schools, aside from my credentials.

I have an analytic brain and enjoy all types of problem solving from algebra to Shakespeare, I have been able to teach other students how to do this and more importantly to enjoy and understand it. Having a wide range of subjects I liked at school enabled me to apply skills from these different areas to enhance my learning. I used my knowledge of algebra and sequencing to get 100% in my GCSE Computer Science coursework and thrive in this unknown territory. I went on to achieve an award in this subject for two consecutive years and tutored others in my class.

I can recognise individual needs of students and adapt lessons for their specific subjects and learning styles. It wasn’t until I found a book I loved did I begin to understand aspects of English Literature however my sister is a visual learner and so creating storyboards and mind maps is what worked for her. I know each person is unique and tutoring should be no different. Building a good relationship is key for this and allows greater understanding of the students requirements as well as their greatest concerns which I can help to address.

My teaching style

A good relationship is essential for tutoring and I like to build a good picture of the student to create or find questions that they can understand and enjoy. Individual needs such as dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia etc. are something I have experience with and can adapt my lessons for.

I begin by explaining overarching concepts and continual practice and learning from mistakes. I find this to be the best approach and students misunderstandings can be addressed early on. This tailored style solidifies prior understanding and helps the student to build confidence throughout the process.
