6About Me
I am a friendly and understanding teacher who has lived abroad for over 10 years teaching in China and Japan speakers of English as a second language in their chosen subjects as well as IELTS and iGCSE. I am keen to understand and support students who are struggling to juggle their various subjects while trying to have some fun in their lives. Equally, helping them understand their courses purposes well and formulating strategies that work for them personally offering a personalized, individually tailored service rather than the normal one size fits all approach used by standard tutors. With this transformative approach you will be more self aware, develop your own stress coping and self correcting strategies as well as be able to identify what you have missed in the examiners eyes when you have made a mistake. This means you will be well suited to self correct while under pressure during a test or exam. If you are worried about your courses, exams or just want to beef up on your weak areas then I am the tutor for you.
My teaching style
My style is firstly to understand you personally what worries you to help you overcome your anxieties while understanding precisely what the exam board is looking for and how to tailor your answer so you exactly hit those points you need. I am very approachable, give instant feedback and provide homework to hone your skills so you succeed. Most of all these will become second nature and easy to automatically use so you needn’t fill your mind with too much during your test time. At the end of each session you will receive a small report on what to work on and how to help yourself progress.
My past experience
I have been a teacher and tutor for over 20 years 10 years abroad in China and Japan as well as 10 years here in various colleges as well as tutoring. I have done this in all modes of online, face to face and blended learning. I have also been an academic coach to help students arrange their lifestyle so they achieve while finding enjoyment. This has been in international schools as well as government schools and for private training centers.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements are firstly I tutored a Hungarian student who was born blind but had a dream of doing their BA in English Literature. They found me to support them to understand imagery in poetry. My tailored strategies worked and she now is a graduate from Oxford and studying for her MA in English Literature. My second greatest achievement was tutoring a Chinese student in IELTS in China who had little time to have conversations with native speakers as they were also studying for the notorious GaoKao exam. In under 30 hours of tutoring they were able to pass with a 7.0 IELTS score getting to study in their university of choice.
