About Me
With over 16 years of experience in special education, I bring extensive knowledge and expertise to my role as a Specialist Support Tutor. I support learners with ASC, dyslexia, ADHD, physical/medical needs, PDA, SEMH, and dyspraxia. My qualifications include a degree in Special and Inclusive Education, a Level 7 certificate for assessing exam access arrangements, a Cert Ed in Further Education teaching, and QTLS status. I assess learners for their access arrangements in examinations, such as extra time, readers, and scribes.
I am passionate about helping hard-to-reach students, I regularly contribute to EHCP meetings, working closely with learners, parents, carers, and agencies to ensure effective support. My empathy, patience, and adaptability allow me to foster trust and build strong relationships with students, encouraging their confidence and growth. Many learners share their achievements with me beyond college, demonstrating the impact of our communication.
Excellent Communication is key in this role, both in writing and face-to-face as many learner’s lack self-esteem or confidence due to past experiences in education. I am a good listener and I am able to gain their trust and respect by being flexible and adaptive to their needs to promote child welfare.
I have safeguarding training and a portable DBS certificate.
My teaching style
My teaching style is Kinesthetic and visual as many students with learning difficulties struggle to process information at speed, and these approaches help transfer the information into their long-term memory, they see it hear it and actively engage in physical activities, for example, You Tube videos. I am calm but responsive to the learner’s needs, creating clear boundaries in behaviour and work expectations.
My past experience
I have 16 years of teaching and assessing students for exam arrangements. I have taught across the curriculum range Entry to Level 4 in a variety of vocational subjects : Childcare, Hair and Beauty, Health and Social Care, Plumbing, Drama, Catering, ESOL, Sport and English Language. I have taught 1-1 in primary schools and 1-1 for excluded dyslexic students in the community.
My Proudest Achievements
Being able to support a student who came to college at 16 with no GCSES to complete a degree level in Early Years to become a teacher.
To support learners with EHCP’s ( ADHD and ASC) who were excluded from school to excel in their vocational and GCSE courses.
