About Me
I’m Charlotte, a Masters student at the University of Cambridge (Physical Natural Sciences), and I would love to help you achieve your academic potential! With a proven track record of academic excellence at GCSE, and A level (4 A*) I have maintained a wide scope of discipline whilst at university. Before finding a passion for History and Philosophy of Science this year, I have previously taken university modules in Mathematics, Physics, Materials Science and Earth Sciences, making full use of the diversity the Cambridge Natural Sciences course provides. With over 5 years tutoring experience in the sciences and maths, I have developed an enthusiastic and positive approach to help you achieve your potential. I’m a strong believer in practice exam questions as the key to success, so not only will I deal with the challenging concepts of the syllabus with clarity but teach you how to best apply this knowledge to an exam situation. I am unique in that as a Cambridge Organ Scholar I was able to apply to both Oxford and Cambridge, and thus have gone through the preparations for entrance exams and interviews for both institutions, before receiving an unconditional offer from Cambridge. This means I’m highly equipped to tutor both the NSAA and the PAT, as well as skilled at helping you to master the environment of the Oxbridge interview. I’m confident, concise, and committed to helping you achieve your fullest potential in your chosen academic avenue.
My teaching style
My teaching style focuses on creating a positive environment that helps nurture a drive and desire to learn. For exams, I firmly believe in past papers as the key to success, and will happily mark papers in advance of our sessions to maximise efficiency. We can then review papers in sessions and go through any questions that proved challenging. I aim to teach with a focus on the individual, identifying their weakest areas of knowledge, as well as asking them where they feel the least confidence. I prepare presentations and detailed examples to go through on these topics, before going through a series of practice exam questions on the subject in the session to refine exam technique. I take my tutoring beyond the times of our session, and work hard to be prepared to teach to the best of my ability to help you achieve your potential.
My past experience
I have over 5 years experience tutoring GCSE and A level Maths, Science and Latin. Beginning after my GCSEs, I tutored students in the years below me, moving on to teach online through COVID, during 6th form and university. With many of my students going on to achieve their target grades, I believe I have develop a style suitable to stimulating success, whilst mastering the art of online teaching, and using technology to enhance my teaching style.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements come in forms of the Academic and Extra-Curricular. I was incredibly proud to receive an unconditional offer from Cambridge, with an Organ Scholarship, following 4A* at A level, and the best results in my school. Some of my other achievements include being appointed the first female Organ Scholar of Hexham Abbey, as well as conducting the Orchestra of Kings College Cambridge whilst working with Master of the Kings Music, Judith Weir.
