Kelisa
About Me
Hi, I am Kelisa, a second-year Optometry student at Aston University, with a strong academic and practical background in the field. I achieved a First-Class grade in my first year of university and was accepted into all the optometry schools I applied to, so I know firsthand what it takes to make a great impression during the application and interview process. Alongside my studies, I’ve been working in an optician’s practice for over two years, gaining valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the profession.
In my tutoring sessions, I focus on creating a structured yet flexible learning environment that caters to each student’s unique needs.
I begin by assessing each student’s current understanding and identifying their strengths and areas for improvement. Based on this, I develop a personalised learning plan that outlines our goals and the steps needed to achieve them. Each session is designed to build on the previous one, ensuring a steady progression of knowledge and skills.
I like to start each session with a quick review of the previous material to reinforce learning and address any lingering questions. Then, we move on to new topics, using a variety of teaching methods to keep things engaging. This might include interactive discussions, problem-solving exercises, and real-world examples that make the material relatable. I also provide practice problems and mini-quizzes to reinforce concepts and ensure retention.
I track progress through regular assessments, both formal and informal. These can include quizzes, homework assignments, and discussions. I also seek feedback from students to understand how they feel about their progress and adjust my teaching methods accordingly. Regular check-ins and progress reports help keep us on track and make any necessary adjustments to our learning plan.
By creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere, I aim to help students not only achieve their academic goals but also develop a lifelong appreciation for learning.
My teaching style
My teaching style varies for each student. I understand that every student learns in different ways and so I tailor the sessions based on their preference and what works best for them. This could be visual learning, promoting self learning critical thinking skills, or more lecture style sessions. All in all, I work together with my students to make sure they are happy with the time they are spending with me, and they feel like they are getting the most out of their sessions.
My approach to tutoring revolves around fostering a deep comprehension of the subject matter. I believe that when you grasp the fundamentals, you not only excel in exams but also develop a solid foundation for future studies. I encourage questions, discussions, and real-world connections to make learning an engaging and dynamic experience. As your tutor, I’ll adapt my teaching methods to suit your individual needs, ensuring that you not only understand the material but also retain it.
