About Me

Hi there! I’m Annie, a 23-year-old animal lover, studying Dental Therapy & Hygiene at King’s College London. Some of my hobbies and interests include origami, anime, film, and mindfulness. I’d love to be your tutor for personal statement writing and/or interview preparations!

After the happy accident of falling into Dental Nursing, I fell in love with the world of dentistry and became ambitious to do a degree in Dental Therapy & Hygiene. Once I completed my qualification to become a Registered Dental Nurse, I applied for university straight away!

Dental Nursing provided me with excellent experience in leadership and teamwork. I trained all new members of staff in both practices I worked for, including three Dental Nurses and two Dental Receptionists. This has given me the opportunity to develop my teaching skills and understand the areas requiring improvement in my teaching abilities.

During the exciting process of applying to university and preparing for interviews, this is the best time to speak with those who have been through the process themselves. I will go above and beyond to give you the best tips and advice possible to ensure your place at your dream university!

My teaching style

Depending on the needs of the student, I will either take a demonstrational or discussional approach.

My demonstrational approach is aimed more towards students with visual or kinesthetic learning styles. My tutorials will consist of a few different medias, such as presentations, videos, and even some activities. I am a visual learner, myself, so I have a lot of experience in transforming complicated content into something that can be easily digested, especially for neurodivergent minds! This approach would be mainly focused towards interview preparations, as presenting information will help the student understand how they should present themselves for interviews. I will help the student practice using “mock interview” tutorials, to give the student the best insight into the interview layout.

My discussional approach is very balanced in terms of student-tutor conversations. Using this approach, my tutorials will involve a few questions from myself to give the student the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions. I would adopt this approach mainly for personal statement tutorials, as it is more focused on how the student comes across on paper. I believe that throwing ideas around in a discussion will aid in the first steps of the personal statement process.

My past experience

As mentioned in my introduction, I have experience in teaching new members of staff within the two practices I worked for. Each trainee had a different learning style, which gave me the valuable skills in changing my teaching style to accommodate the trainee within their best interests.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements was obtaining a Distinction grade for the Access to Higher Education course in Biomedical Sciences in Summer 2022.

The achievement that sits at the top of the list is, no doubt, having received a place on the Dental Therapy & Hygiene course at King’s College London. King’s was voted the top dental university in the world in 2021, so my success in gaining a place here was, and still is, very special to me.
