Reza
About Me
Hi. My name is Reza I am currently a second-year medical student at the University of Glasgow. I remember how daunting and struggling it was the first time I was beginning to apply for medical school. From A-levels, Interviews, UCAT and personal statements there were a lot of things I had no idea about. This sense of feeling ‘lost’ is the primary reason I took on this role at medic mind. I genuinely want to teach and more importantly, fix aspiring students’ mistakes. I don’t want them to make the same ones I made and learned from during my time applying to university. Through my experiences, I want to guide young people to help get into medical school. I also was a former medic mind tutee myself so I am familiar with the system and how to approach students. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball and cycling. Recently though, I have picked up the hobby of cooking.
My teaching style
My teaching style is mainly composed of two parts. The first part involves the complete fundamental understanding of the learner. I have come to realise that having a solid foundation with no gaps in one’s knowledge is the best path towards learning. Once the fundamental theory or techniques have been learned, my focus is going to be successfully retaining that information for the learner. This is done by often putting the students in challenging situations and making them take the lead in lessons which also improves self-confidence and mastery of topics.
I also use calendly to book students. I have found this to be very convenient for both tutors and tutees as all available slots are shown and students can book according to their convenience. This allows less time and hassle in figuring out when both parties are available for a lesson.
My past experience
I have been tutoring for the past two years and I have successfully helped several candidates get into medical school and excel in their UCAT. My total hours taught exceeds three thousand hours and almost all of my students have received in the top 10 deciles in the UCAT. Additionally, I have helped with many interview practices and improved the confidence of candidates. Lastly, I have helped over 100 students receive all A* or equivalent in their A-levels and even more so to improve their general exam grades (for example from a C to an A etc.)
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements is winning first place in a state science fair due to my research on E-Coli bacteria and how it is affected by daily household cleaners. Additionally, I also consider being elected head boy in my last year of high school a very big achievement of mine.
