About Me

Hi, my name is Reza, and I am currently a final-year medical student at the University of Glasgow. I still remember how daunting the medical school application process felt when I first started. There was so much to understand, from A-levels and the UCAT to interviews and personal statements, and at times I felt completely lost. That experience is one of the main reasons I became a tutor at Medic Mind. I want to make the process clearer and less stressful for students, while helping them avoid the mistakes I made myself.

Having previously been a Medic Mind student, I understand both sides of the process and know how important it is to have a tutor who is patient and invested in your progress. I aim to give every single one of my students honest feedback and the confidence needed to excel in whatever they aim to pursue.

Outside of medicine and tutoring, I enjoy playing basketball, cycling and cooking.

My teaching style

My teaching style focuses on two things: building a strong foundation and then applying it effectively. I first make sure the student properly understands the underlying concepts and has no major gaps in their knowledge. Once that foundation is in place, I move towards active learning through practice questions, interview scenarios and timed exercises. I encourage students to take the lead during lessons, so they become more confident explaining their reasoning and working independently. I also adapt each lesson to the individual student, rather than using the same approach for everyone, as different students have varying strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles.

My past experience

I have been tutoring for the past six years and have taught over 3,000 hours across the UCAT, medical school interviews, and A-level subjects. During this time, I have helped several students secure places at medical school and achieve excellent UCAT results, with many scoring within the top decile. I have also supported more than 150 students in achieving A* grades or equivalent at A-level, as well as helping others make major improvements in their general exam performance, including many students who progressed from a D grade to an A. My experience has taught me how to identify where a student is struggling and really build their confidence over time.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements was winning first place at a state science fair for my research into how common household cleaners affect E. coli. I am also proud of being elected Head Boy in my final year of high school, as it reflected the trust placed in me by both students and staff.

At university, I have continued to take on leadership roles and have been elected president and representative of several societies, including the Neuro Society and Basketball Society.
