About Me
Hello! I’m Halima, currently about to enter my final year studying Chemistry at Oxford. I have been tutoring for over 3 years now, with roles across all ages and backgrounds. I specialise in teaching A-Level Chemistry and Physics in particular, and my tutees have found my student-led teaching method useful. Additionally, I have helped mentor several students into receiving Oxbridge offers, helping them with personal statements to interview preparation. Haven worked as a University Admissions Advisor at Tanglin Trust School, Singapore I have been exposed to not just the University Admissions system in the UK, but across the globe. I am able to help my tutees not just in their specific subjects, but also make sure they feel supported throughout their educational journey. In my spare time, I love to read both fiction and non-fiction, learn German and go for hikes around London. Please let me know if you have any questions!
My teaching style
The first time I meet students I like to ask them their goals, why they want to achieve a particular grade and where they are currently. I then take the specification and make a checklist in a shared Google Drive folder, alongside other resources I have prepared. During the tutoring session, I would start by asking their current knowledge of the topic, then diving into more detail through a Soractic/tutorial style lesson rather than reciting a PowerPoint. At the end I typically would look at a past paper style question, or even Olympiad questions depending on the student and would set them some questions I would then mark.
My Proudest Achievements
