About Me

Hi! My name is Emily, I’m 19 and a student at the University of East Anglia and entering my second year studying BSc Environmental Sciences – hoping to pursue a career as an Environmental Consultant and as an advisor to the government on Net Zero ambitions. I have a passion for Geography and Science (Biology and Chemistry) achieving A*AA at A-level as well as an A* in my EPQ which investigated how impactful recycling is in my local area of London on the climate crisis. This is also reflected in my GCSE grades (7-9/A-A**) achieving 9s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and Food Preparation and Nutrition. I am a determined individual who had to work hard for my academic success, often putting in 12 hour days at sixth form, but paid off after receiving 3 Russell Group offers from Durham, Manchester and Southampton – but eventually picking UEA, where I fell in love with the course and the acres of land!

My teaching style

After a lot of trial and error throughout my education, I have found the most effective method of teaching is to complete past paper questions to test your knowledge and therefore able to spot the areas that need improving. A lot of the questions on exam papers are repeats from previous years and have the same mark scheme. I am fortunate enough to have access to the exam boards bank of past paper questions, allowing me to compile a question bank tailored to your rough areas, alongside explaining the concept of the question, but most importantly how to answer efficiently to gain the maximum marks available. I also believe a genuine love for the subject and applications of it outside of the exam – I love the applications what I learn has to everyday life and I hope to pass that on!

My past experience

As a sixth form student alongside my studies I was a science tutor for GCSE pupils within my school struggling with the subject. I found this process very rewarding seeing their skills improve but also their confidence within themselves and their intelligence – which is something I dearly miss once starting at university.

My Proudest Achievements

In year 13, I received the Dr. Robert Bell Cup at my sixth form, for challenging the adversity I have faced throughout my studies. It was overwhelming to receive an award in recognition for overcoming the struggles I have faced whilst trying to complete my A-levels, and the £100 which came with it!
