Ollie
About Me
Hello! My name is Ollie and I’m a second year psychology student at the University of St Andrews, following my A levels in Psychology, Philosophy and Biology.
These subjects were a wonderful combination – I understand what motivates people and their thought processes, and how this is underpinned by our physical make-up and our place amongst living organisms on this planet. Alongside this I have developed critical thinking and analytical skills to look at how different people interact with each other and the world around them. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge of these subjects and I invite you to come on a journey of discovery with me. You will learn about yourself and develop your own excitement for these incredible subjects.
Through my own processes of learning, and the teachers and mentors I am lucky enough to have encountered, I understand how important it is to have a tutor who is knowledgable, enthusiastic, supportive and well organised. I take pride in being all these things and will ensure that every student learns in the way that suits them best. I know that studying is a very individual process and I will motivate and help students understand this so that they develop skills that see them through their school years and into university, and become life long learners. I will encourage them to develop confidence in their skills and knowledge of their subject, to work consistently and at a high level.
I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey and your striving!
My teaching style
My tutoring approach revolves around two key pillars: conversation-based learning and visual aids. I strongly believe that engaging in discussions fosters a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Instead of just presenting information, I encourage interactive conversations where you can freely ask questions, express your thoughts, and explore concepts together. This not only helps in clarifying doubts but also encourages critical thinking and analytical skills. When tackling content heavy subjects such as Biology, I promote the use of different programs to help get the content into your head.
My Proudest Achievements
I took great pride in being awarded the Psychology prize at my school. I was also awarded a distinction on my independent project focussing on the brain. Having won a gold medal in tennis at the 2018 Maccabi Games, I’m happy to have represented my university on teams for both cricket and tennis.
