Hi, I’m Tom. I have been tutoring for 5 years and I would be delighted to take you on as my next student! My own academic journey has been incredibly fulfilling, providing me with exciting opportunities and transforming my approach to learning. Through my studies, I developed a deep passion for my subjects, honed my problem-solving skills, and built the confidence to tackle complex challenges.
I find immense joy in guiding students on their own academic paths. The most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me is witnessing the growth in my students – seeing their understanding deepen, their grades improve, and their confidence soar. I firmly believe that the skills and mindsets developed through our work together will serve them well not just in their immediate academic pursuits, but in all their future endeavors. Whether you’re aiming for top grades, preparing for university admissions, or simply looking to deepen your understanding of maths and science, I’m here to support and inspire you every step of the way.
My teaching style
My tutoring style is adaptable, patient, and encouraging, tailored to each student’s unique needs and learning preferences. I offer a comprehensive approach that combines rigorous academic instruction with broader skill development. For GCSE and A-level students, I focus on both exam success and building a strong foundation for future learning. This includes developing effective study skills, time management techniques, and problem-solving strategies.
For university applicants, I offer targeted support for the admissions process. This includes crafting compelling personal statements, providing bespoke admissions test preparation (TMUA, MAT, ESAT, PAT, STEP), and conducting mock interviews with detailed feedback. For students with more time to prepare, I incorporate a holistic approach that encourages exploration beyond the syllabus, including wider reading and subject exploration.
Throughout all my tutoring, I maintain a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking on challenges. By combining academic rigor with enthusiasm and empathy, I help my students become confident, curious, and well-rounded individuals ready to excel in their future endeavors.
My past experience
I have accumulated over 1500 hours of teaching experience, tutoring Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at iGCSE, GCSE, IB, and A level as well as 6th form and university admissions tutoring. My experience spans in-person, online, and summer camp settings, allowing me to adapt my teaching approach effectively to various learning environments.
My Proudest Achievements
I am very proud of my academic reccord, having achieved 4A*s at A Level and graduating from Cambridge with a 2.1 in mechanical engineering. Outside of my academics, I am most proud of having run a sub 90-minute half marathon.
