7About Me
Hi! My name is Lizzie and I’ve just finished studying my second year of English at Homerton College at the University of Cambridge. I am a conscientious and organised student, devoted to both my studies at to outreach at University. I am heavily involved in my college’s student union, having been entertainment officer and communication officer, working with other union’s across the University to develop a support network for students. I am a class act student from Birmingham and I’m very invested in helping with access to education for all young people. I have been a Zero Gravity mentee and mentor, supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds like myself to receive Oxbridge offers. In my spare time, I enjoy acting (I have performed in several shows in Cambridge, and one at Edinburgh Fringe), and writing creatively.
My teaching style
I pride myself of being patient in my teaching, as I believe it to be the best way to engage with students and develop an equal footing that shows respect on both of our parts. I will always push students to the fullest of their abilities, but I am also an active listening, and I will never make a student feel overwhelmed and never make them feel inadequate. My teaching style begins with assessing a pupil’s current understanding of their curriculum, asking what they would most like to focus on, assessing myself what would most benefit them, developing a timeline for this, and splitting each section into action points that can be achieved in each session.
My past experience
I have lot’s of experience tutoring pupils in 11+ Grammar School exams (having gone to a Grammar School myself), in English Literature, English Language, History and Religious Studies GCSE. I also have experience tutoring English Literature A-Level, and mentoring two students in their application to Oxbridge for English.
My Proudest Achievements
Getting into Cambridge, despite a lack of support from the network around me.
