About Me
Hello – I’m Laura, a 5th Year Medical Student at the University of Oxford (Hertford College). I have worked for over 6 years as a tutor and mentor, and helped numerous students with academic studies (all sciences, english, maths, etc) and university admissions (including for Medicine and other related science subjects). I have a very high success rate for university admissions, in addition to positive feedback from both students and parents. My qualifications include a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Medical Sciences (University of Oxford, 2020), 4A* A-levels (2017), and 11A* GCSEs (2014-5), so I feel confident teaching a range of subjects. I have taught students ranging from ages 8 to 45+ years, at 11+, ESL, 13+, GCSE, A-levels, University Admission, and Degree levels. In 2017, I received offers to study Medicine at Oxford, Cardiff, Imperial, and Queen Mary’s London (Barts); I have further helped students apply to Cambridge, UCL, KCL, Southampton, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, UEA, Dundee, Brighton-Sussex, Sunderland, St George’s, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, and more. I am able to adapt interview questions to meet the requirements of different medical schools (eg MMI and panel), making my advice more specific. I am able to give spoken and written feedback, including video recording of mock interviews (if desired). Overall, I am a friendly and enthusiastic tutor, who has even volunteered mentoring students for the last 2 years. I have helped numerous students with interview nerves and anxiety, and several individuals with SpLDs (ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, etc).
My teaching style
My teaching is mainly 1-on-1, online, and with sessions lasting 30-120 minutes. I prefer to cater tutoring to each student’s need, whether thats content-based teaching or going through past paper questions (although I believe the latter is essential). I have a friendly approach, helping students relax to ask any questions and enjoy the lessons.
My past experience
I have over 6 years tutoring experience across a range of subjects (English, Maths, Sciences, ESL, Reasoning, and University Admissions). I have taught students aged 8 to 45+ years, individuals with general and specific anxieties, and those with SpLDs (eg ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, etc). I have been a tutor both online and in person, held group and 1-on-1 sessions, and have worked in both paid and volunteer teaching.
