Hello there! My name is Shreyas and I will be a 1st Year medic at the University of Oxford in October 2023. Having been through the medical school application process last year, I know how daunting and difficult the process can seem. That’s why I have committed to helping future medical students with this process for them to have the greatest chance of getting into their preferred medical school. Considering I have just finished the application process, I harbor lots of valuable information and guidance concerning the various stages of the application process, specifically on Interviews and Admission Tests. Above all else, however, I wish to make the tutoring process enjoyable for students, to make them feel as relaxed as possible during the application process. This will help them be the best possible versions of themselves.
My teaching style
I have a slightly different approach to conventional teaching in that I try to guide the student to the answer rather than giving it to them immediately. In other words, I like the student to try and guide me through the issue with me interjecting when the student gets stuck. Although this teaching style is very different from conventional teaching, I feel that allowing the students to solve the problems with as little help as possible, helps them not only learn and remember more information, but it also helps develop key skills, such as critical thinking, which are invaluable.
My past experience
I have been teaching students for over five years predominantly in the field of mathematics. I have tutored students of various ages, but mainly secondary and high school students. My past experiences have been the driver for my teaching style, as my students don’t only achieve their short-term goals, but they also build on their critical thinking skills, which transfer across to many other subjects.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is receiving an offer from Oxford University. Another one of my proudest achievements is helping one of my students drastically improve their mathematics grades to the point where they went from the bottom set to the highest set.
