My teaching style

My teaching approach is built on clarity, structure, and genuine academic confidence. I combine subject expertise with a student-centred style that adapts to each learner’s needs, goals, and working pace. I believe that strong analytical skills and confident writing are the foundation of success in English, History, the LNAT, and law-related applications, so my lessons focus on developing these core abilities in a way that is both accessible and challenging.

At the start of tutoring, I assess each student’s strengths, weaknesses, learning style, and aims—whether it’s improving essay quality, mastering exam technique, boosting LNAT scores, or preparing for university applications. From this, I create a personalised plan that evolves as we make progress. My sessions are structured but flexible, with clear objectives for every meeting so the student knows exactly what we’re working toward.

I break down complex topics into manageable steps, using examples, guided practice, and model answers to help students understand how high-level work is constructed. For the LNAT, this means teaching the logic behind question types, showing how to eliminate distractors, and practising under timed conditions. For essay-based subjects, I focus on argument structure, use of evidence, critical evaluation, and developing a strong academic voice. I teach students how to plan effectively, write with clarity, and refine their work to reach high standards.

A major part of my approach is active practice. Students regularly complete short tasks—paragraphs, timed questions, source analyses, or essay plans—which we review together. I provide detailed, constructive feedback that highlights improvement areas while reinforcing what they’re doing well. This ongoing loop of practice and feedback builds confidence and measurable progress.

I also prioritise exam strategy: how to manage time, decode question wording, prioritise points, and avoid common errors. Many students know the content but struggle with technique, so I make sure they feel fully prepared for real-exam conditions.

Most importantly, I aim to create a positive, encouraging environment. I understand that subjects like English, History, and the LNAT can feel overwhelming, so I help students build resilience, clarity, and self-belief. My goal is not only to improve grades and scores, but to equip students with the long-term skills they need for university-level thinking, especially if they are considering or preparing for law school.

My past experience

I have successfully tutored a student through the LNAT and provided comprehensive personal statement guidance; she is now a first-year Law student at the University of Bristol. I also helped a GCSE History student improve their grade from a 7 to a 9, supporting them with exam technique, essay writing, and content mastery. In addition, I have taught History at KS3 level, helping students develop strong foundational skills and confidence in the subject, thus significantly improving her test scores.

My Proudest Achievements

Some of my proudest achievements reflect both my academic drive and my love for clear, powerful communication. I won the Politics Prize at school and achieved the highest A-Level Politics mark in my year, something that taught me the value of solid technique and genuine curiosity.
At university, I’m the Managing Editor of Bristol’s student Law Magazine, and have experience in winning awards for journalism over the past 5 years— a highlight that recognises my commitment to high-quality writing and analysis.
I’m also proud to have secured places on several competitive legal internships through strong, well-crafted applications, experiences that have deepened my understanding of the legal world and strengthened the skills I now pass on to my students
