Hello, my name is Riya and and currently a fourth year medical student at Hull York medical school. During the process of applying to medical school I collated valuable tips, advice and resources that helped me to perfect my personal statement, achieve an excellent UCAT score and recieve 4/4 Offers from Medical schools that I applied to and I would love to share this with other students. I joined as a tutor with study mind because I am really passionate about helping students get through their medical application process. I remember how I initially found the process very daunting but I was able to get help from current students at the time and they were very supportive and I found it useful to have someone who has already been through the process give first hand advice. Therefore, I would like to give back the help I recieved to others by bringing the best out of the students and helping to prepare and support them through the process of getting into medical school.
My teaching style
I prioritise the needs of the individual student and stucture my lessons around what they would like to focus on so that they can get the most out of the lesson and feel more confident about the learning topics that were set for that session. I would start by briefly going over what we will be covering for that session and throughout the lesson I will enable the student to practice and recall the material to ensure that they have fully understood what has been taught. I would also deliver the content in an interactive and engaging way as this will better help the students to retain the information. Before the end the session I would ask if they have any questions and make sure I have cleared any doubts before ending the lesson.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements are receiving the award for the highest GCSE grades in the year in high school after achieving all A*. When applying to medical school I also received 4/4 offers from University of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Hull York Medical School and I am know studying the course that I have aspired towards since a young age.
