About Me
Hi there, my name is Karen! I’m a final year medical student at King’s College London. I completed my Sixth Form in the UK and vivdly remember the unviersity application period being incredibly stressful. Managing my time between internal exams, interviews and admission tests was no easy feat and I definitely would not have been able to do it without the support of my college and mentorship of tutors. I was immensely privileged to have been able to access such resources and understand that not everyone may have access to such an avenue. As such, I hope to put the experience and insight I have cumulated to good use and give back to the community that has helped me so much.
I was very blessed to have achieved 5A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and completed an Extended Project Qualification dissertation. I secured offers from King’s College London, University of Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh; and successfully got an interview and was eventually pooled at the University of Cambridge. I achieved a score of 3050 on my UCAT, which put me in the 99th centile during my year. If you need any help with UCAT, interview preparation, personal statement vetting, or any of the above mentioned subjects, please do reach out!
My teaching style
I believe one’s teaching style should be guided by the student and what they are most receptive to. Personally, I retain informartion best from Powerpoint presentations/handmade notes and often build on this by utilising online resources (eg. Youtube videos). As such, I plan to incorportate such visual learning aids into my lessons. I also will provide additional resources (eg. mock interview questions) and exercises (eg. past year papers, mock interviews) that students can look at in their own time, should they be keen. Ultimately, I am happy to adapt my teaching style will be guided by what helps my student and meets their needs the best.
My past experience
Yes – I have previously tutored Sixth Form students on UCAT, Interview Preparation as well as Personal Statement writing. I have also been selected to speak at various outreach events for Y12/13 students, giving them practical advice on applying for medical schools, interview/work experience tips etc.
Throughout university, I have also been very involved in student societies (President of Neurosurgical Society, Mentorship Lead of Surgical Society) and organised very educational events as part of my roles. The most recent of which include creating presentations and delivering teaching for a national teaching series.
