About Me
Hi I’m Lucie!
I’m a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where I studied Education, English and Drama.
I studied English, French and Theatre Studies at A Level and achieved grades A* A* A.
As my degree choice might suggest, I feel passionate about education and its potential to shape a young person’s life. I was lucky enough to have some amazing teachers during my A Levels. The tricks that they had taught me for my A Level work really stayed with me and helped me tackle my university course. I hope to be able to do the same for you!
My Sixth Form helped me develop strong study skills. Good study skills can save you hours of revision and are essential at university, which requires students to do a lot of independent learning. Studying at Cambridge required me to be extremely organised. I juggled my degree with a load of extracurriculars including student radio, ball committees, theatre productions and improv comedy. Over the three years I learned how to fit all of these commitments in by working smarter, as opposed to harder. Let me know if you would like to accommodate teaching on study skills into your sessions!
I’m now studying for my journalism qualification alongside tutoring so have lots of practise writing snappy sentences and checking spelling and grammar.
Whether it’s personal statement advice, interview prep or help with English A Level I’d love to have a chat with you and see what I can do to help!
My teaching style
At Cambridge, I attended weekly supervisions with academics. I always found that my favourite supervisors were the ones who valued my input, were flexible in their approach and inspired me with their passion for their subject. I loved working with supervisors who felt like ‘real people’ and drew on their own experience as a student to give helpful and honest advice.
As a tutor, I am very much informed by these experiences and like to work collaboratively with students to ensure they get the best from their sessions.
As well as ensuring that students have a good understanding of the subject matter, I like to encourage them to develop their own original thoughts. As we cover the material, I think it is also important to consider how we might revise it in preparation for an exam or an interview.
These skills are essential at university, especially Oxbridge.
Most importantly, I like to share my enthusiasm for literature and writing!
My Proudest Achievements
My project getting nominated for the ‘Best Journalistic Programming’ Award at the 2021 Student Radio Awards. To know it was selected by industry pros among thousands of entries was really cool!
