About Me

Hi! I’m Layan, and I’m really passionate about helping students feel confident and capable in their learning journey. I’m someone who genuinely enjoys breaking down tricky concepts in a way that makes them click, and through my experience I have found it so rewarding to see a student go from “I don’t get this” to “I’ve got this.” Outside of academics, I’m a friendly, patient person who believes learning should feel encouraging and empowering, never intimidating. I know how stressful school can be, and my goal is to be the kind of tutor I would have wanted—someone who listens, supports, and helps you build real understanding, not just memorise facts. Outside of academics, I enjoy painting, music, and community volunteering, which have helped me develop strong communication and empathy skills. I’m super excited to meet new students and help them reach their goals in a way that works for them.

My teaching style

My teaching style is strategic, engaging, and tailored to each student. I don’t believe in mindless memorisation—I focus on active recall and exam technique to build real understanding and long-term retention. Every lesson is customised to tackle the student’s specific weaknesses, and I adapt my approach based on how they learn best. I also provide my own specification-based flashcards which are what helped me achieve the top grades. My goal is to make studying smarter, not harder and to put their knowledge into practice and with the correct exam technique help my students to convert their knowledge into achieving their goals getting the highest marks possible.

My past experience

I’ve had valuable experience supporting students through both formal and informal tutoring. I hosted GCSE revision sessions at school, helping students strengthen their understanding and improve exam technique. I’m also currently a tutor with MedicHut, where I went through a rigorous application and interview process to assess both academic ability and communication skills. I’ve received great feedback from students, including one who improved from a grade D to an A* with my support. These experiences have really developed my ability to explain topics clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and build a positive, supportive learning environment.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievement is receiving four offers to study Medicine, which was the result of months of dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Preparing for the UCAT, crafting my personal statement, and acing interviews pushed me to develop strong time management and communication skills. This accomplishment not only affirmed my passion for medicine but also taught me the value of resilience and determination—qualities I now bring into my tutoring to inspire and support my students.
