Karishma
About Me
Hi, my name is Karishma and I am a 2nd year Oxford medicine student. I am academically driven, as shown by achieving awards in competitions, completing a language GCSE while in Year 7, and achieving within the top 10% of medical candidates in one of my 1st year examinations.
But most importantly, I love to teach- I am enthusiastic about sharing what I know with others & finding the best, most efficient ways to learn, personalising techniques for each individual.
I balance my work with extracurriculars including dance, which I have been learning for 15 years. I have taken part in numerous competitions, and assist my dance teacher during her weekly classes, which has helped me to develop a wider range of teaching techniques. I actively participate in groups working towards equality, diversity, inclusion, and outreach, which is extremely important to me.
My teaching style
My teaching style involves getting to know the student’s interests, as it is often useful to use examples and metaphors while teaching difficult concepts.
One of the best teaching techniques is active recall- I continuously quiz my students throughout their sessions on previous and current content to ensure that it sticks in their mind. When setting homework, I often suggest techniques such as blurting and resetting exam questions. Having used a huge variety of revision methods myself in order to find the right ones for me, I am able to provide my students with the optimal ways to learn for them.
During sessions, it is important for the student to also recognise their progress as this often works as a form of motivation, so testing on the same/similar group of topics at the start and end of a session is really useful.
