Henry
About Me
Hi! My names Henry and I am a second year dental student studying at the University of Bristol, I am originally from London, where I went to Latymer Upper School. I am really passionate about tutoring and teaching and did it throughout my schooling, I tutor science for GCSE and A – level, and can also help with UCAT/ interview prep especially for Dentistry. I was accepted into Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle so can give specific insights into their interviewing system and what to expect. As someone with ADHD I understand how difficult it can be to engage with traditional classroom teaching, so I strive to tailor my teaching style to each student and what their goals are. I also focus on keeping the student motivated by changing lessons plans to keep things interesting and engaging. If I had to choose the most important thing for a student to master for their application to Medicine or Dentistry it would be exam technique and that is the area I will focus at lot of my teaching.
My teaching style
Everyone learns differently and as a tutor it’s important to adapt my teaching style to what fits the students needs. I also find going through practice questions with the student and asking them about their thought process when answering each question. I also like to tailor my lessons to what the student wants to do at that time to encourage engagement and will change the lesson plan if the student is struggling to engage.
My past experience
At my secondary school I ran tutoring sessions for students in younger years who were struggling with any of the material they were doing at that moment or if they had any questions about exam technique ect. I have also helped run a Cricket program for girls to get them interested in the sport, where I learnt how to teach in a fun and positive way that helps encourage growth.
My Proudest Achievements
I am most proud of my Physics A-level results as I initially really struggled with the subject because it didn’t come as naturally to me as my other subjects. But I worked on it with my teachers and asked my friends for help and by exam time I really enjoyed the subject and felt confident to help my other classmates in it.
