About Me
Hello my name is Tara and I am a 3rd Year Dental Student at Newcastle University. I grew up in London and moved to Newcastle in 2021 to start studying Dentistry. I very much enjoy the course and we are now starting to see patients which is very exciting. Aside, from my studies I am the Dental Netball Captain for the University so organise matches and play weekly. I enjoy keeping fit and playing sports with my friends, such as tennis, as it’s a great way to socialise in a healthy way.
I have 5 years tutoring experience and was the first job I got when I was 16. I worked at my local Kumon centre tutoring primary school children English and Maths to prepare them for the 11+ entrance exam. Since joining University, I have been an online tutor tutoring KS3 and GCSE students Maths, Science and Spanish. Therefore I would love to share my knowledge and expertise.
My teaching style
I think it is key to personalise your teaching style to the student. I will begin lessons by asking the student what they are studying in class at the moment and how they are finding that. I will then go through a couple worked examples with them so that they understand the method. When the student shows signs of confidence with the topic, I will assign them some practice questions to work through independently. Finally I will set them some homework that we can go through in the next lesson. I think the occasional test to do as homework is vital to monitor student progress.
My past experience
-2 years at my Local Kumon Centre (11+)
-3 years working as an online Maths, Science and Spanish tutor (KS3 and GCSE)
My Proudest Achievements
Initially I got rejected from dentistry which knocked my confidence initially however using my skills of resilience I continued to stay motivated to study the course and re-applied next year. I then got accepted the 2nd time and am now doing the course I love and couldn’t be prouder.
