About Me
I am a fourth-year Chemistry student, with an inclination towards Physics and Mathematics, in which I will pursue a PhD as well, starting next year. Currently, I am working on my Master’s project in Theoretical Chemistry, namely Electronic Structure Theory. I am passionate about research and have an inquisitive nature, but I also love to share this passion with other people. Over the years, I have found that teaching alongside my own research is the best way for me to share what I love with other people and help them find their own passion and interests. At Oxford, I have also been involved in access & outreach work as a Student Ambassador at my college, Christ Church, and at the Department of Chemistry, so I interacted with many students that were either trying to make a decision about university or seeking advice about getting in. Therefore, I am very aware of the worries and questions students usually have so I am able not only to help in the process of admission but also help to relieve some of the worries they might have.
My teaching style
I am continually learning and honing my skills when it comes to teaching. Still, the two things I think are crucial for teaching are flexibility and adaptability to the student’s needs. Therefore, I put a lot of effort into creating a trusting relationship with the student so I can see what issues they have and what I could do best to help them. This can result in covering more theory they need, preparing presentations or lecture notes, or the opposite, solving more problems or looking into more delicate aspects like exam technique or interview technique.
My past experience
I have been tutoring in Chemistry for the past 6 years, and for Oxbridge admissions for the past 4 years.
My Proudest Achievements
On a personal level, my proudest achievement so far is getting the PhD position I wanted at the Max-Planck Institute for the Chemical Physics of Solids. However, I am a lot prouder of my students’ achievements – of my last 15 students, 9 got into Oxbridge and the rest went to very good universities as well.
