Alexander
About Me
Hi!
My name is Alexander. I am a second year Graduate Entry Medical Student at Swansea University, and prior to this opportunity I was living in Adelaide, South Australia as a qualified Optometrist.
I have acquired considerable experience in the Medical School Interview process for multiple Universities across the UK and Australia (2020-2023). As such, I am uniquely positioned to provide my knowledge of structure and content applicable to both panel and multiple-mini interviews (MMI) in both regions.
I have developed an extensive pool of interview questions covering an array of relevant topics, many of which with transferrable methods that may compliment discussion or act as a simulated practical experience from which detailed feedback can be provided.
While the interview is an unfamiliar environment, I can provide skills in adaptability and communication so that you can represent yourself and your experiences effectively. I can assist in where to seek out further guidance outside of tuition, such as useful interview resources widely available, or how to learn about individual university course structure. These factors all act to develop a sustainable method of preparing for interview.
I understand the importance of expressing one’s experience in written form as part of the medical application. Particularly relevant to Australian portfolio-based applications and the UK Personal Statement, I can impart my knowledge on structure, discussion on expression and in drafting.
I recognise how important it is to collaborate between current student and applicant. This should be encouraged, and it is a sustainable method of progressing through this demanding yet rewarding journey that we have both experienced.
Contact me if you are interested in working together! I look forward to meeting you!
My teaching style
Of priority to me is developing continuity with a student or group that allows for a personalised approach to learning that is methodical yet engaging. I value helping students guide their own learning experience and enjoy the responsibility of ensuring student understanding before ending a session. I am a good listener, I allow others to be heard, to speak openly and have their concerns acknowledged and acted upon. I want to create an environment where students are comfortable to ask questions and have confidence in challenging their knowledge.
My teaching style mirrors the important qualities that I prioritise in my own learning experience. I ask questions of myself and of my students. I provide constructive feedback and seek the same from my students as an opportunity to improve.
My past experience
I have over seven years of experience in individual and group tuition of students in primary, secondary and higher education, particularly in Mathematics, Physics and Biochemistry. This has developed my ability in providing the skills, conceptual knowledge and reasoning required by students in topic completion.
I have acquired considerable experience in completing the GAMSAT admission exam (2019-2022), and interviews for multiple medical schools across the UK and Australia (2020-2023). As such, I am uniquely positioned to impart knowledge of interview structure and content applicable to both panel and multiple-mini interviews (MMI) in both regions.
My Proudest Achievements
I was a medical school applicant not long ago. I understand the challenges that this causes and that the journey can take multiple attempts. While there is uncertainty in this process, I encourage you to remain focussed on your goal despite the setbacks. Having developed these skills now will prepare you well for training and a career in Medicine.
