Farheen
About Me
Hi, my name is Farheen, I’m a first-year Engineering Science student at Jesus College, Oxford. For GCSEs, I studied a variety of subjects, including the three sciences, Maths, Further Maths, Geography, German and Computer Science. I then studied Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths for A-Level and achieved four A*s, after which I started my degree at Oxford in October last year.
I’ve always enjoyed teaching; I find it really rewarding and empowering, knowing the phenomenal difference that you as a teacher can make to so many different people! I have tutored for several years now, and I hope that these experiences will make me a flexible and friendly tutor. If you have any preferences in teaching style or lesson structure, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate for these. Outside of my degree, I’m also really interested in sustainable energy and the energy market, and I love to draw and go hiking in my free time 🙂
My teaching style
I begin all my sessions with a few questions, asking how the student’s week has been and if they’ve done anything new or exciting outside of school, so that students can relax and get into the mindset, ready for our session. The rest of the lesson is really dependent on the way that the student prefers to learn; with some students, the sessions are very content-heavy whereas with others, we focus more on going through exam-style questions.
I always try to incorporate an element of interaction, asking students questions to check they understand and pausing where appropriate to give the student a chance to reflect and voice any worries or concerns. If there’s a particular way of teaching that you prefer, please let me know and I will try my best to meet your request!
My past experience
I started tutoring when I was in year 10 and have tutored at two other companies before I started at Medic Mind. Previously, I started off working with students aged 5 – 11 and then progressed to working with GCSE-level students and above.
