We believe financial income should not be a barrier, so up to 40% of our places will be given to students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds for absolutely free. → Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
To ensure convenience for our international students residing overseas, we place great importance on providing seamless arrangements. As the majority (70%) of our student body belongs to this category, we offer convenient pick-up services from Heathrow airport to your accommodation. Upon arrival, a dedicated member of the Study Mind team will warmly greet and assist you. Additionally, if necessary, we can also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal, ensuring a hassle-free experience from start to finish.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We recommend this course to anyone aged 14-25. This means any child in Year 9 or above or any graduate entry applicant.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
Once the work experience week is reserved, it becomes non-refundable as it involves meticulous planning, including accommodation arrangements, room bookings, and various logistical considerations. To ensure your spot is secured without any potential loss, you have the choice to make a non-refundable deposit of £500. The remaining payment will be due before the course begins, allowing you to complete the payment process prior to the commencement of the programme.
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Ensuring the safety of your child is our utmost priority during our Computer Science Work Experience week. They will be under the vigilant care and supervision of the Study Mind Safeguarding team throughout any required travel. Although there is a 30-minute train journey between the accommodation and the hospitals/hospice, you can have peace of mind knowing that your child will be accompanied at all times during the entire journey.
→ What is the accomodation like and where will I be staying?
Throughout the duration of the course, you will be housed in individual rooms at UCL Accommodation, which includes breakfast and dinner. Your stay will commence on Sunday night prior to the course start date and will conclude on Friday, totaling 5 nights. You can be confident in the security of the premises, as they are monitored 24/7, and Study Mind staff members, who are trained in first aid and safeguarding, will be available to provide any necessary support. Furthermore, we can make arrangements for airport pick-up services to enhance your convenience.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

We understand that many of our students come from overseas and have specific dietary requirements, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, and more. Throughout the programme, your child will receive exceptional support from our highly trained Study Mind staff. Our staff members undergo thorough DBS enhanced checks and receive comprehensive training in first aid and safeguarding. We prioritize safety by implementing additional measures, such as having a female staff member present both on-site and within our accommodation premises. To further enhance security, students will have access to a 24-hour emergency contact number, which can be shared with parents and guardians, providing an extra layer of assurance.
→How many days does the Computer Science Work Experience run for?
The summer school programme spans across five days, commencing at 9 am and concluding at approximately 3:30 pm each day. Well in advance, you will receive a comprehensive timetable that outlines the specific timings for each session, allowing for proper planning. If you choose to stay at UCL Halls, we have a variety of exciting evening activities lined up for your enjoyment, including movie nights, bowling, and other engaging options. Our work experience programmes cover a wide range of careers, including data science, AI engineering, softwfare development, computer system analysts and many more!
→ Do I need to pay up front?
Recognising the financial challenges posed by the current economic situation, we strive to provide flexibility by offering interest-free installment plans for 3, 6, and 12 months. Please note that while a non-refundable deposit of £500 is necessary to secure your spot, we aim to accommodate your needs by offering convenient payment options.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accomodation?
Although booking accommodation with us is not mandatory, you have the flexibility to either commute or make independent arrangements if necessary. However, choosing our accommodation presents unique benefits. It allows you to reside alongside other students participating in the work experience programme, fostering a sense of community and connection. → Will Study Mind provide certificates for the week?
