Yes you can! As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, Study Mind’s summer experiences qualify for the Gold DofE Residential section.
→What type of Chemistry careers does Study Mind cover?
Study Mind provides an extensive array of work experience opportunities in the realm of chemistry. Our offerings encompass a broad spectrum of chemistry disciplines, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and more. Our commitment is to offer a rich and varied selection of work experience opportunities that span across different branches of chemistry, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse experience for our participants.
→ Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
We make sure to provide convenient arrangements for our international students, a majority of whom, around 70%, come from overseas. We offer pick-up services from Heathrow airport to the accommodation, where a member of the Study Mind team will be there to welcome you. Additionally, if needed, we can also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We recommend this course for individuals aged 15-24, which includes any child in Year 9 or above and graduate entry applicants.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
The Work Experience week is non-refundable once you have made the booking. This policy is in place because we need to make arrangements for all logistics, including accommodation and room bookings, well in advance. If you're uncertain about your availability but wish to reserve your spot, you have the option to secure your place by paying a non-refundable deposit of £500. The remaining payment will be due before the start of the course.
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Safety is our utmost priority during the Work Experience week. Your child will always be accompanied by the Study Mind Safeguarding team for any required travel.
→ What is the accommodation like and where will I be staying?
You will be accommodated in single rooms at UCL Accommodation, where both breakfast and dinner will be provided. Your stay will begin from the Sunday night preceding the start of the course and checking out on Friday morning, totaling 5 nights. The facility offers 24/7 security, and our Study Mind staff, who are trained in first aid and safeguarding, will be present on-site to provide assistance. Additionally, we can arrange airport pick-up for your convenience.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

→ For meals, do you deal with dietary requirements?
A significant portion of our students comes from abroad and may have specific dietary preferences and requirements, including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, and more. Rest assured, we will ensure that these dietary needs are taken into consideration, and the essential adjustments will be made to cater to your meals.
→ I have a health condition, can I still join?
Certainly, before the start of the week, we kindly ask that you notify us of any health conditions you may have so that we can take the necessary precautions in advance. → Who will be looking after my child?
During the entire programme, your child will receive dedicated support from our Study Mind team, all of whom have undergone DBS enhanced checks and extensive training in first aid and safeguarding. We make sure that there will consistently be a female staff member present, both on-site and within our accommodation facilities. Students will have access to a 24-hour emergency contact number, which they can use at any time. If needed, this number can also be shared with parents and guardians.
→How many days does the Chemistry Work Experience 2023/4 run for?

We understand the financial difficulties that have arisen due to the current economic circumstances, particularly in terms of upfront payments. To accommodate these challenges, we offer interest-free instalment plans for 3, 6, and 12 months. It's important to note that a non-refundable deposit of £500 is required to confirm your spot.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accommodation?
Booking our accommodation is not mandatory. You have the option to either commute or make your own accommodation arrangements if necessary. However, there are advantages to securing our accommodation. By choosing this option, you'll benefit from the support and assistance provided by our dedicated team, and you'll also have the opportunity to live alongside fellow students participating in the work experience programme.
→ Will Study Mind provide certificates for the week?
Certainly! Each student will receive a tangible certificate as a clear endorsement of their successful course completion and active engagement. This certificate holds significant value, especially for their UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) applications, as many universities require evidence of participation.
