After successfuly receiving interviews at all 3 dental schools I applied to, and receiving offers from 2 of them I have a lot of experience I can share to complete a successful and eye-catching application.The personal statement being what sells you on paper and your personal traits being what sells you at your interview. There is so much that is being considered. After experiencing both panel and MMI interviews I have lots of key tips and advice I wish someone told me when I was applying. Hi! My name is Ruhab and I’m a 4th year student studying Dental Surgery in Leeds. Dental school application & interviews can be a daunting process, especially if you don’t know where to start. Hi I’m Asvitha. I am going into my first year at Cardiff University to study Dentistry. I have previously completed a degree in Dental Hygiene at the University of Portsmouth. I have always wanted to become a dentist and from applying to dentistry second time I was able to get into dental school. I have an outgoing and funny personality so I am approachable for anyone. I enjoy spending time with family as well as outdoor activities. I like to have an active lifestyle to ensure I have a balanced life. It’s important when studying demanding courses like dentistry, having a balanced lifestyle can help with stress. I have over 4 years of tutoring experience for students studying GCSE and A-Level. I have tutored students for English Maths and Science with all my previous students obtaining grades over 7 and above.

Currently, I am a second year dental student.
I recently completed my A levels in biology chemistry and maths. I then decided to go along the science route and pursue a career in dentistry.
I chose dentistry for a number of different reasons. Dentistry is a fulfilling career as it will allow me to actively improve the oral health of my patients which will be very rewarding. Dentistry is also a multi faceted career which combines many different skills such as problem solving, manual dexterity, good communication as well as time management which is quite appealing. It also provides a good work life balance and there is always the opportunity to further specialise into your chosen field of study.
My interest in science stems from secondary school. I enjoyed biology the most since I was intrigued to learn about the inner workings of the human body. I progressed and studied biology at a level to further develop my knowledge and currently, at university I study anatomy and histology which are both branches of biology.
I also really enjoyed maths throughout secondary school and college. My favourite part of maths was trigonometry at a level. I liked the challenge of solving difficult equations. Maths allowed me to develop transferable skills such as problem solving and thinking analytically and critically which will also be required of me as a dentist in the future.

After the happy accident of falling into Dental Nursing, I fell in love with the world of dentistry and became ambitious to do a degree in Dental Therapy & Hygiene. Once I completed my qualification to become a Registered Dental Nurse, I applied for university straight away!

Dental Nursing provided me with excellent experience in leadership and teamwork. I trained all new members of staff in both practices I worked for, including three Dental Nurses and two Dental Receptionists. This has given me the opportunity to develop my teaching skills and understand the areas requiring improvement in my teaching abilities.
