Asha
About Me
Hi there, my name is Asha, and I am studying dentistry at Newcastle University! A little bit about myself, I play the Piano and Flute, I enjoy competitive swimming and cross country and love interacting with people. I have recently relocated from Hong Kong 2 years ago, and am currently living in Oxford, where I completed my A Levels. I scored well in my A levels and UCAT, secured a place at Newcastle Dental school, scored all 9’s for my GCSE’s and obtained all of my offers post interview. The last two years have been stressful and demanding, trying to balance A level exams, applications, interviews, sports as well as having a life outside of academia. It’s taken me a while to create a balanced lifestyle and learn in the smartest and quickest way possible, and I would love to help support and guide other students that may be feeling overwhelmed, as well as share some useful tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.
I am a very sociable person and have tutored for several years prior, as well as been involved in many volunteering programs. These opportunities have given me experience with individuals of different ages and medical conditions, and allowed me to adapt to new situations quite swiftly. I think well on my feet and believe I will be able to adapt to the needs of each of my students and form relationships with them.
My teaching style
My teaching style is fairly relaxed and very interactive with my students. We will spend time creating lesson plans together and working at a speed that they are comfortable with. I would naturally adapt my teaching style to each student and their needs, and hope to focus on areas they are less confident in and build up their confidence. My lessons would be as often as students feel they need them, with allocated times at the end of each lesson for students to tell me if they would like me to change the pace we are moving at and give me any feedback.
My past experience
Over the years I have tutored younger students mathematics, reading and english language, and was in charge of all my lesson plans. really enjoyed watching my students become more confident in their skills, and build relationships with them over several months. I would like to help students from GCSE years onwards, and especially aspiring dentists as I know from personal experience how difficult and demanding the application process can be.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement to date is securing my place in dental school, as it was the combination of my efforts and hard work over two years. I am also proud of my success at the interview stage of my dental applications, however outside of academics, I have competed in multiple charity triathlon’s which I have placed well in and am proud of.
