About Me
Hi! I’m Theo, from London. After achieving 12 grade 9s in my GCSEs, I studied Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation and Philosophy for A level, achieving A* in all four subjects and winning school prizes for top perfomance in all of them. I applied to universities in both the UK and the US, receiving Philosophy offers from all 5 of my UK choices (Cambridge, LSE, UCL, Warwick and St Andrews) as well as an acceptance from my top US choice, Princeton University.
After sitting my A levels, I took a gap year before starting university in order to engage with the world of work. I have worked as a political consultant intern for F&R Strategy, an analyst for the Cambridge Middle East and North Africa Forum and I am now working at an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning company called Deepchecks. Whilst doing this, I have been volunteering for a charity called Screen Share and I am also learning German on a super-intensive course.
Whilst I have always worked hard at academic work, it has never been draining because I am extremely passionate about what I do and I strongly believe this shows in my teaching. Whatever your goals are, I am ready to strategise and put in the effort so that we can achieve them.
My teaching style
I believe students learn best when content is presented clearly and when they are passionate about what they are doing. As such, I always try to explain issues simply before expanding, both through explanations and my own resources and notes. Where possible (e.g. in university applications) I focus on content that students are most interested in, but where a strict syllabus needs to be followed, I focus on making the necessary content interesting before jumping in.
My past experience
Over lockdown, I taught mathematics to underprivileged children struggling with online learning. I also ran the Philosophy and Classics (Junior and Senior) Societies at my school, as well as teaching younger pupils as a subject mentor.
My Proudest Achievements
Receiving offers from my top UK and US choices, running my first marathon, helping the charity Screen Share distribute laptops to 300 refugees, seeing pupils I have taught gain confidence as they progress.
