About Me
Hi! My name is Conor Looney and I’m tutoring Maths and Further Maths GCSE, Maths A-Level and Computer Science GCSE.
At GCSE I achieved nine A*s and one 9 in GCSEs including Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature and others.
At A-Level I achieved three A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science. In Further Maths A-Level I achieved 100% of uniform marks across the whole A-Level and in Maths I achieved 98% of uniform marks in Maths A-Level.
I have work experience as an assistant at McCalls Lisburn where I gained valuable transferable skills, particularly professionalism and communication, which I think is hugely important when tutoring.
Currently I study Computer Science at the University of Warwick and I’m really enjoying it.
I also love cycling and playing chess with friends.
My teaching style
My teaching style focuses on the student and their understanding of the topic. Generally, I think people learn best in a discussion rather than a lecture (however every student varies and its important to find what works best for each student rather than applying a one size fits all approach). I remember my Further Maths teacher at A-Level ensured lessons were interactive and engaging. Questions were encouraged, even if they interrupted the lesson. I think this is important because if there is a misunderstanding it should be addressed as soon as possible.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement would be achieving three A*s at A-Level and getting into Warwick because I remember thinking I had done very poorly on the first exam I had, my Further Maths pure exam. I thought that it would be impossible for me to meet my offer to Warwick from that exam alone. However I decided to double down and ensured I did my best on all my other exams and it all worked out.
