5About Me
Hello, I’m Iona and I’m a 5th year Vet Student at the University of Bristol. I’ve had previous experience mentoring applicants applying to vet school, tutoring GCSE students and working with widening participation programmes. I’m an enthusiastic, dedicated and approachable person who centres each session around the individual student’s needs.
Outside of university, I enjoy taking part in a wide range of music groups and especially enjoy singing with church choirs. I also love the outdoors and often spend time on farms milking cows, rearing calves etc. I’m really looking forward to graduating and starting my first job as a vet. I want to be able to pass on everything I’ve learnt and loved about Veterinary Science to prospective students.

My teaching style
My teaching style very much centres around the individual student’s needs. I adapt my session materials to best suit each student and work on specific areas they might find more challenging. When preparing vet interview students, I structure the initial session into two parts- going through their application and experiences before helping them apply that to mock interview scenarios. I give lots of feedback and work with each student to find techniques that work for them.
My past experience
I began online tutoring in May 2021, predominantly teaching GCSE Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I really enjoy working with students and was delighted to be involved in the government’s National Tutoring Programme to help catch students up due to the pandemic disruption. I’ve really enjoyed tutoring in preparation for interviews and have recently helped run mock veterinary and dental interviews.
My Proudest Achievements
I’m not sure what my proudest achievement would be. I really like doing things that have a positive impact on others.
