Hello,
My name is Sam Horton, I am absolutely thrilled to be a mentor this year.
Through vast experience in UCAT and interview teaching, being a panelist on MMI stations multiple times, and having tutored friends and family to interview standard UCATS, I am in a great position to advise and educate all things medicine.
I myself received invites to all 4 interviews, scored one of the highest ever decision making scores (880), and ranked in the top decile for UCAT score.
I am currently a second year medic at Newcastle University and am loving it so far.
I have worked in local colleges running mock MMI events and UCAT tutoring on behalf of the university, and really understand just how valuable these sessions can be.
I will provide structured, cohesive techniques to excel in each section of the UCAT, as well as general ‘on the day’ advice for nerves and how to make the absolute most of the test.
My teaching style
My teaching style is tailored and logic based, for example in the UCAT, maximising the outcome of each section by focussing on proven exam techniques that worked for me and countless others.
I offer a personal approach with support and encouragement, but I will always look towards improving areas to guarantee that the best, most prepared version of the student is ready for the test/interview.
I focus on real questions that have been used before, look at common pitfalls some students make, and encourage the student to communicate with regards to sections they themselves may not be as confident in.
