About Me

Hi! I’m Emily, I’m 21 years old and I have recently graduated from Loughborough University with a 2:1 in BSc Sociology, and intend to obtain a PGCE by 2026. I have been tutoring and mentoring in A-Level Psychology for nearly 4 years; I have a passion for teaching and would love to help ease the stress of exams for GCSE and A-Level pupils, supporting them through their subjects. I’d love to share all my hints, tips and tricks to help students with their exams, whether they involve longer essays or short answers. I understand comprehending lots of content during secondary school is very overwhelming, so I aim to make learning as enjoyable as possible and finding the best way to help absorb the content for each pupil so they feel more comfortable with their studies.

A-Levels:
Psychology – A
History – A
English Language – A
Core Maths (AS) – A

A little more about me: I have a passion for sport and I am working as a junior rowing coach this year and I am working towards becoming a qualified rowing coach. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring during my university career and would love to continue in my gap year this year!

My teaching style

From the very start, I want to know what the student is aiming for so I can help them progress in the most effective and efficient way possible. Whether they are working at a 4 or a 7 and want to achieve a 6 or a 9, I wish to help them work towards their goals and be proud of what they have achieved! Regarding my style of teaching, I found it very helpful when teachers would really break down a question point by point until I understood it – I acknowledge it is very difficult to understand a topic completely when everyone is at different levels of learning in a classroom and perhaps learn in a different way, so the extra support I was provided was very helpful. For me, it wasn’t until late in year 11 in my GCSEs that some exam techniques would *click* and it would all make sense! Through my tutoring experience and teaching I know this is possible for everyone and I wish to help others with this early on in the year to relieve them of some of the stress I experienced later!

I aim to be with any student every step of the way for as long as they need to help them feel more comfortable with their studies. I know every student is capable of achieving those top grades – I would love to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience of GCSEs and A-Levels, providing tips and tricks to ace those exams!

My past experience

I have been a tutor with Study Mind for 2.5 years now, tutoring in Psychology, English and Science and supporting several students through their GCSE and A-Level exams. I have also been a Subject Mentor for Maths, Psychology, English, History and Sociology on the UK’s Largest Educational Discord Server (Blair’s Brainiacs) for almost 5 years. Here, I have hosted regular, quality revision sessions for GCSE and A-Level pupils as well as assisting members with their subjects on a daily basis, providing feedback on assignments and advice where needed. Furthermore, I was hand-picked by my teachers as an English and Psychology mentor at my Sixth Form for 2 years (during the pandemic) where I supported pupils regarding how to answer higher marked questions, in turn reaching the top bands of the mark scheme when approaching their mock exams.

My Proudest Achievements

Achieving 4 As at A-Level was incredible for me. Unfortunately, due to lockdown my studies suffered and I struggled to maintain my grades throughout the year. Receiving an offer from my dream university became my motivation to do my best – and it paid off!
