About Me
I’m Melody, a second year medical student at the University of Leicester! I am an experienced tutor that has been tutoring for 4 years now. I tutor a range of subjects from KS1 all the way to A-levels. I achieved A*ABB at A-levels and grades 9-7 in all of my GCSEs, including 6 grade 9s.
I have a deep passion for education and a strong desire to make a positive impact on students’ academic journeys. This passion for teaching stems from my belief that quality education can open doors to many new opportunities.
With my 4 year experience of tutoring students ranging in age from 10-16 years old as well as my knowledge of the subjects, I am well equipped with the knowledge and skills to help students excel in their academics and exams. My experience has allowed me to develop personalised learning experiences towards each student to cater to their individual learning styles and needs, and so allowing me to teach with patience and empathy, as I know that we all learn in different ways.
Being a second year medical student, I understand how to break down key topics into more bite sized and manageable learning chunks, as well as being able to manage my time well and cope well under pressure. These skills will allow me to formulate personalised study plans for each student I tutor, so not only will they be receiving teaching from me, but I will show them how to implement these skills into their own study routines as well, going as far as even helping build study plans together.
I really do care about making a difference, and will go above and beyond to make sure that students receive the optimum teaching from me!
My teaching style
My teaching style is a very active approach. Firstly, I ask students they’re preferred learning method if they know this and try to implement this into my teaching as to cater more to the student.
I like to ask questions throughout the session and start each lesson with recap questions from the lesson before. In this way students are actively participating and having to learn the information rather than just memorise.
I encourage students to ask many questions as this is a safe non-judgemental learning environment, where I am to make students feel as comfortable as possible.
In addition, I do tend to give some homework relative to the topics we have discussed. In this way, students are using the information we have discussed and applying it. This will allow students to see how much they have learned and allow me to assess they’re understanding on the topic even further.
My past experience
I have a 4 year experience of tutoring, this includes both online and in person tutoring.
My Proudest Achievements
In terms of being a tutor, my proudest moments have been this year when two of my tutees sat their GCSE exams. One student was originally failing when they came to me for lessons and when they received their results they messaged me a huge thank you and said that they had passed all of their Science GCSEs. This made me feel incredibly proud of the student’s hard work paying off, and my teaching having had an impact.
