About Me
Hi there! I’m Kamo and I’m currently a medical student at The University of Sheffield. I enjoy working with students and supporting them in their journey to achieving their dream careers. I have been an A Level and GCSE tutor and mentor to prospective medical students since 2022, so I have loads of experience working with KS4 and KS5 students. Additionally, I spent some time working with students on the autism spectrum, which encouraged me to approach education through new and exciting ways. With that, I understand how challenging and overwhelming particular subjects can be, particularly at such a pivotal point in education. Thus, my aim has always been to encourage students to be enthusiastic, confident and curious learners. Outside of academia, I lead an active lifestyle that allows me to take a break from medical school and connect with my friends and family. In particular, I am an avid hiker and I’m currently learning how to roller skate. I look forward to working with you!
My teaching style
In our initial meeting, I prefer to break the ice, where we learn more about each other and build a comfortable and safe space for them to study. When approaching any subject or topic, I emphasise on three important things: how they learn best (e.g. flash cards, using different colours, images and diagrams instead of long text, etc.), what they don’t understand about the topic and how to break down the information in a way they will understand. This typically looks like a past exam paper or creating a list of topics they don’t understand (which is ordered from least to most understood). With that information, I can start to form lesson plans to start strengthening knowledge and understanding. During the lesson, I use a few examples to present a topic, break down the fundamentals of that topic then assess the student’s understanding by having them complete questions of increasing difficulty. Ultimately, the pacing of the lesson determined by the student, and we can spend as much or as little as needed in order to understand the topic. At the end of the session, we reflect on what we have covered, whether they understanding the topic better, and adjust future plans for the next session accordingly. Alongside building their knowledge and understanding, I focus on getting the student prepared to tackle questions in exam timings.
